AHM 5089-10 Premier Production Run Great Northern Class O-7 2-8-2 Heavy Mikado Locomotive #3385 w/Vandy Tender

"Mikado" is the name generally assigned to the steam locomotives of the 2-8-2 wheel arrangement. The general, and reasonable assumption, is that the name "Mikado" stems from the early construction of locomotives of this wheel arrangement by Baldwin in 1893. These locomotives were of the three foot six inch gauge, and were constructed for Nihon Tetsudo (Japan Railways), a private railway at the time.

"Between 1929 and 1931 GN converted 22 of its old 2-6-8-0s into Class O-7 2-8-2s with 69" drivers, and in 1932 built from scratch three enormous O-8 class Mikes with 69" drivers and an axle loading of more than 80,000 pounds. In the 1940s the O-7s were rebuilt to O-8 specifications. The O-8s generally take honors for North America's fastest, and most powerful Mikados." Introduced in 1983, the AHM5089-10 and companion Rivarossi 1583 were the finest, and only, Premier Production Run Mikados offered by Rivarossi/AHM. They were also the only Mikados offered w/Vandy Oil Tenders.
