AHM Santa Fe "Blue Goose" Six-Coach Passenger Set

The Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway's 3460 class comprised six 4-6-4 "Hudson" type steam locomotives built in 1937 by the Baldwin Locomotive Works for service between La Junta, Colorado and Chicago, Illinois, a fairly flat division of the railroad suited for the 4-6-4 type. The first locomotive, #3460, was built streamlined; painted light, robin's egg blue and silver, it became known as the "Blue Goose". It was the Santa Fe's only streamlined steam locomotive, featuring extensively in railroad publicity and, often depending on whether it was (rarely) clean or dirty was, never-the-less, a rail fan favorite. It was eventually scrapped in 1956. Only one of this class survives, #3463, on static display on the grounds to the Southeast of the Kansas Expocentre in Topeka, Kansas.

Rivarossi produced the "Blue Goose" continuously from 1976 to 1994.

The Coaches:

Rivarossi produced the coaches offered here under their own name and for both AHM and IHC. As far as we can tell, all versions were cosmetically identical and all are very hard to find. Just as the "Blue Goose" itself was controversial, as the Santa Fe only produced two coaches in the robin's egg blue and silver color scheme, so are the model coaches themselves. In any case, stickler for accuracy or not, it cannot be argued that the coaches included in this set are some of the most beautiful ever produced.
