Legendary in song and story, here is, perhaps, the most famous American locomotive and, certainly, the most famous engineer, in U.S. railroad history. The locomotive is the Illinois Central #382 4-6-0 Ten Wheeler and the engineer none other than Casey Jones who rode #382 to his death on April 30th, 1900 and was so iconic in his day that he even had his own signature whistle.
