IHC Premier M627 Union Pacific 4-8-2 Mountain Locomotive #8999 HO Scale
IHC Premier M627 Union Pacific 4-8-2 Mountain Locomotive #8999
When the 4-6-2 Pacific fleets were becoming over-burdened as passenger trains grew in length and weight, the first North American 4-8-2 locomotives were built by the American Locomotive Company (ALCO) for the Chesapeake and Ohio Railway (C&O) in 1911. In 1922 Alco also built 40 4-8-2 Mountains for the UP with Road Numbers 7000-7039 and classified as MT-1s. A year later, fifteen more (road numbers 7850 through 7864) were added to the roster. Finally, in 1924, five more "Mountains" came from ALCO. These locomotives were designated as Class MT-2 and were assigned road numbers 7865 through 7869. Where did IHC get the 8999 Road Number? Good question.
