IHC Premier M9531 N&W Class W-2 2-8-0 Consolidation Locomotive #695
"In 1900 the Consolidation was the backbone of N&W's freight locomotive fleet. Except for a handful of Class T Vauclain compound and class B cross compounds, most were 60-ton engines with 50" drivers and 20" x 24" cylinders, little different from 2-8-0s used on other roads. The 2-8-0s that foretold the future were 30 class W engines that came from Baldwin in 1898 and 1899. Numbered 800-829, they had 56" drivers and 21" x 30" cylinders, and weighed 167,830 pounds. In 1900 the first W-1s (830-842, 844-865) started rolling out of Roanoke, essentially class W engines with piston valves instead of slide valves. The Ws and W1s had narrow fireboxes which were unable to keep up with the demands of the relatively large drivers and long piston stroke, so the design was modified with a wide firebox over the drivers. A total of 212 class W2 2-8-0s were built by Roanoke, Baldwin, Richmond and Cooke between 1902 and 1905."
