IHCM922 NYC Class L-3 4-8-2 Mohawk Locomotive #3001

"In the late 1930s Mohawks occasionally substituted for Hudsons in passenger service. L-1s and L-2s were limited to 60 mph. but NYC rebuilt two of the last L-2s with lightweight rods, cast engine beds, and improved counterbalancing and found they were good for 80mph. Orders quickly went to Alco and Lima for 65 L-3 Mohawks, delivered between 1940 and 1942. They had the same 69" drivers but smaller cylinders, 25 1/2" x 30", and higher boiler pressure, and nos. 3000-3024 were fitted with roller bearings specifically for passenger service.
