Roundhouse took some poetic license in 1984 with the introduction of their Southern Pacific Overton Series in SP Daylight livery. In reality, long after most Overton coaches had been reduced to kindling, the first SP Daylight Limited was introduced on April 28, 1922 running non-stop from San Francisco to Los Angeles, the longest non-stop run in the world at the time. With a stunning orange, black and silver paint scheme, the various Daylight Limiteds were often referred to as the most beautiful trains in the world. Little Known Facts about the Southern Pacific Railroad:

The importance of the SP in the growth and history of the U.S. reached far beyond just it's railroad operations. It was the defendant in the landmark 1886 United States Supreme Court case Santa Clara County v. Southern Pacific Railroad which is often interpreted as having established certain corporate rights under the Constitution of the United States.

Also involved in humanitarian efforts and technological innovation, the SP founded important hospitals in San Francisco, Tucson, and elsewhere. In the 1970s, it also founded a telecommunications network with a state-of-the-art microwave and fiber optic backbone. This evolved into Sprint, a company whose name came from the acronym for Southern Pacific Railroad Internal Networking Telephony.

The Coaches

MDC/Roundhouse Trains began as "The Roundhouse" in 1938 and, then, as Roundhouse Trains and, later, as MDC/Roundhouse. For nearly 70 years Roundhouse was one of the great names in model railroading.
