Mantua 395-001 Limited Edition Rogers AT&SF 4-6-0 Ten Wheeler Locomotive HO Scale

The Norris Locomotive Works built the first American 4-6-0 "Ten Wheeler" in 1847 for the Philadelphia and Reading Railroad. The design was a natural evolution of the 4-4-0 American immortalized by the "General" of Civil War fame. Like the 4-4-0 American, the aesthetically beautiful and often ornately ornamented Ten Wheeler was found in both fast passenger and freight operations. On most railroads in the second half of the 19th Century, 4-6-0s were typically assigned to a single engineer many of whom took great pride in their loco and kept it polished and spotlessly clean. With over 16,000 4-6-0 Ten Wheelers produced they were exceeded in popularity among US railroads through the latter half of the 19th and early 20th Centuries only by the classic 2-8-0 Consolidation.

Mantua's Last Finest Dixie Bell
