Mantua Limited Edition 313-501 AT&SF 2-6-0 Mogul Locomotive

First developed in 1866, the 2-6-0 Mogul was the first locomotive to use the radially turning two-wheel front bogie truck. The Mogul was an all purpose locomotive, similar to the smaller 4-4-0 Americans, but with better freight capabilities due to a top speed limited to 50 miles per hour and better pulling power. Wide spaced drivers also made for easier maintenance.

After a 10 year hiatus from the Mantua catalog the mighty Mogul reappeared in 1995 for a limited two year engagement sporting some serious upgrades. The venerable 5-Pole Pittman style motor was retired and replaced with a state-of-the-art Sagami MC94 "Can" motor featuring 30% more torque at 1/6th the current draw. Other upgrades included Directional Rear Lighting for the tender, a 3-piece brass bell and unit specific road numbers on the headlamp and boiler cover.

This exceedingly rare New, Mint Condition loco represents a shining chapter in model railroading history.
