Roundhouse 56510-293 Southern Pacific 2-6-0 Mogul Locomotive HO Scale
Roundhouse 56510-293 Southern Pacific 2-6-0 Mogul Locomotive HO Scale
The first North American example of this type of locomotive was built for the Louisiana & Nashville Railroad in 1864. At the time it was the largest locomotive built and got its name from the Mohammedan Empire (India). 1866 and later versions of the 2-6-0 Mogul were the first locomotives to use the radially turning two-wheel front bogie truck.
The Mogul was an all purpose locomotive, similar to the smaller 4-4-0 Americans, but with better freight capabilities due to a top speed limited to 50 miles per hour and better pulling power. Wide spaced drivers also made for easier maintenance. More than 11,000 Moguls were built between the 1860's and 1910. They were generally used on freight trains but had enough speed to occasionally pull a light passenger train.
Built from upgraded vintage original Roundhouse tooling and decked out with modern can motors and razor sharp graphics, these late production Roundhouse steamers are some of the quietest and smoothest running locomotives ever produced.
